Scenario:

Your consumer advisor representative, Emma, would like to meet with you as the Emergency consultant in charge of complaints, regarding a case.

Several weeks ago, a 27/F with known C1 esterase inhibitor deficiency presented to your ED in the early hours of the morning. She has lodged a complaint because she believes there was an unnecessary delay to administration of the appropriate dose of her icatibant.

Prior to the meeting, Emma has provided you with a timeline of the events as per the electronic medical record:

0230 Patient presents to ED triage with tongue swelling. Triage note mentions "no obvious swelling, no evidence of anaphylaxis, past medical history of C1 esterase inhibitor deficiency". Given Cat 3 and streamed to discharge stream.

0400 Brought into cubicle. Nursing note mentions "patient reporting further swelling, nil obvious oedema"
0430 Seen by doctor, given anti-histamine
0500 CRT due to nursing concern. Taken to resus over concerns over airway
0545 Resus registrar documents consultation with immunology consultant and prescribes icatibant
0645 ICU review and admitted for observaton. Noted to have improved tongue swelling
